This book supersedes the original Blackjack Bluebook and is considerably larger, containing many new blackjack playing concepts, some of which have never been seen in print before. Renzey writes in a factual yet easily understandable style and throughout the book, his blackjack strategies are accompanied by excellent card hand graphics that really do help you through some of the more complex strategic concepts. Please do not be put off by the mention of complex blackjack concepts. This is not a book that throws endless probability studies at you and blinds you with numbers. It moves smoothly from basic strategy to basic refinement techniques to amateur card counting through to advanced card counting techniques. Everything is laid out in layman’s terms and there are many golden blackjack tips throughout each chapter of the book. Also, most usefully, each concept or blackjack technique discussed is given a percentage value for its worth to the player which is something we have not come across before.
As a basic strategy player you are presented with such simple ways to identify a shoe heavy in Aces and Tens that you’ll wonder how you didn’t think them up yourself! Renzey then shows you how to play and bet through the remainder of that shoe. We liked the way he presented the information to us and we felt compelled to learn quickly and get to a blackjack table to try this stuff out. He deals (excuse the pun) very well with those problem hands such as 12 vs. 3 and identifies several examples of when you should make blackjack plays against the basic strategy rules. If you are looking to move up the blackjack scale from basic strategy, we would highly recommend this book to you. It will take you neatly into basic refinement techniques and simple card counting methodology.
Amusing in places and always informative, Blackjack Bluebook II should become your preferred Blackjack Bible. Renzey’s Ace/Ten counting method is so easy you really will be excited about sitting at your next blackjack table. For the more advanced blackjack players amongst you, his unbalanced KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) counts are the most thoughtful and user-friendly concepts to appear for many years.
